WASHINGTON D.C. – The Food and Drug Administration has declared all U.S. candy corn to be completely free of genetically modified ingredients. Consumers cautious about GMO’s in their diet have been uncertain about the safety of candy corn, and some have been purchasing candy corn only at farmers markets.

The FDA’s statement is meant to reassure consumers, as well as U.S. trading partners. American candy corn producers stand to benefit, as markets that currently ban GMO’s are now open to trade. The European Union is one that will not import genetically modified candy corn, stating that they prefer organic, locally produced candy corn.

Candy corn futures at the Chicago Board Options Exchange are now being traded in positive territory, attracting new investors in the candy corn market.
